From the Personal Observatory
10/19 - 11/12/1995
Exhibition with video sculptures and installations by Madelon Hooykaas and Elsa Stansfield
Madelon Hooykaas and Elsa Stansfield are two of the most interesting personalities producing video art in Europe. The two 'Grandes Dames' of the scene have been working on installations and objects together since the middle of the 70's. They have participated in many important presentations of contemporary art, such as the documenta in Kassel and the Sydney Biennale.

At first glance their work appears brittle and is hard to figure out. But by looking more attentively the subject becomes obvious. It is the world, the human existence and the perception that is tightly bound with it. The complete works of the two artists can be divided into two cycles: 'From the Museum of Memory' is a characterization of the phase when analysis of memory stood in the foreground for them. The focus of 'From the Personal Observatory' is on the perceptional level of current, intuitive experiences in soziological and geographical surroundings.

The materiality of their creations corresponds to another elementary dimension. It is built of dominating forms, homogenous surfaces and pure materials.
Their works are references to the tones and pictures of this world, people, places and sounds, forces of nature and endlessness.

The two ladies are going to develop a new work in FORO ARTISTICO'S White Hall with the title "Flash".
